BUS
LANE REVIEW
A
Bus Lane review that was ordered by Derby Conservatives following
them taking control of the Council in May last year. This covered
several key Bus Lanes in the City.
Derby
Conservatives want to be sure that Derbys Bus Lanes are
achieving what they were designed to do, are appropriate and safe,
and that a fair balance is struck for all road users to ensure we
keep Derby moving.
Following full
consideration of the report, a decision to remove Dufflield Road and
Kedleston Road Bus Lanes along with others changes across the City
was made.
Consultation is
being carried out on these proposals during February 2011.
Other changes
include; allowing Motorbikes to use all of Derbys Bus Lanes
where practical will also be brought in. Multi-occupancy vehicles
(for example, people sharing a car to travel to work) may also be
able to use Bus Lanes in the City.
In Darley Ward,
Duffield Road Bus Lane has been heavily opposed by local
Conservatives ever since Labour brought the plans forward and the Lib
Dems implemented them. It is proposed to make the changes in April
this year. New cycle lanes would be installed, where safety and lane
width allows.
Other decisions
made included the removal of Curzon Street Bus Lane and options for
the removal of Osmaston Road Bus Lane and Bus Gate between Russell
Street and Litchurch Lane with improvements made to the junction there. |
