Derby Needs a Tax Break

Under Labour council tax bills have more than doubled and it’s time Government tightened its belt like the rest of the country.

And locally, in Derby, only the Conservatives are pledging no Council Tax rises at all.

If we form the next Government will slash wasteful spending on advertising and expensive private sector consultants. At the same time, if we take control of Derby City Council, we will use that money to offer Derby people no rise in your council tax bill.

Derby Conservative Group leader, Cllr Harvey Jennings said, " In 2009, the Derby City Conservative group were able to force, by sensible cost-cutting measures, a much smaller increase in council tax compared to that proposed by Labour and the Lib Dems.

This was done as an opposition party to the current Lib Dem administration. Work to propose ways to make Derby City Council more efficient continues and will form a fundamental part of our 2010 manifesto which will include a pledge to freeze council tax under a Conservative government.

We believe this will offer the people of Derby a clear choice between keeping the tax and spend Labour and Lib Dems compared to fundamental change under the Conservatives. "

We would welcome your comments on Council Tax and the Council budget.
